The DNR College was established on July 4 th , 1945 catering to the educational needs of Students of not only in and around Bhimavaram but also of the State. Presently the college is conducting Diamond Jubilee Celebrations. The college was the brain child of the philanthropists of in and around Bhimavaram particularly of Late Sri Dantuluri Narayana Raju, founder Secretary & Correspondent. As a renowned institute of higher learning in the State, an epoch making activity was initiated in 1971-72 by the establishment of P.G. Course with the unrelenting and painstaking efforts of Sri G. Jagannadha Raju the then President of the College. As a first step, M.A. Social Work and Economics were started in 1971-72 followed by M.Com., and M.A. Telugu in 1973-1974. Later, the college witnessed remarkable growth under the dynamic leadership of Late Sri G. Ranga Raju and Sri G.S. Rambadra Raju. As a part of his development, MBA course was started in 1993-94 followed by MCA course in the college. Presently, under the stewardship of Sri G.V. Narashimha Raju, President and Sri. V. Suryanaraya Raju, Secretary & Correspondent, the PG courses is embarking upon consolidation and progressive growth by throwing open new vistas by starting new courses. In this endeavour, M.Sc. Electronics and M.Sc. Mathematics in 2003-2004, M.Sc. Organic Chemistry and M.Sc. Physics in 2005-2006, and M.Sc. Analytical Chemistry and M.Sc. Bio-Technology in 2006-2007 were started in PG courses. From the next academic year, the government of Andhra Pradesh has accorded permission to start M.Sc. Micro-Biology course. The college is also initiating  steps to start B.Pharmacy course from the next academic year.

The student strength of PG courses is nearly 1000. The admissions into various courses are conducted through AUCET and ICET. The Convener of admissions, Andhra University conducts centralized counseling for admitting students into various courses in the PG courses. The PG Courses is given "Permanent Affiliation Status" by Andhra University. in 2004-2005, the PG Courses were recognized as a "Recognized Research Centre" by the University to guide part-time Ph.D. students. For this purpose, the University recognised 10 teaching faculty members as "research guides" in the four Aided Courses, viz., Social Work, Economics, Telugu and Commerce. Of the 19 aided staff members of these aided courses, 17 are holding doctoral degrees. The total teaching faculty of the PG Courses constitutes 60.

The PG Courses had a separate library science 1974 with a separate librarian. The total number of books in the library comes to 34,000 covering all the courses in the college. In addition, the library has been subscribing national and international journals numbering 80. Apart from the library has been providing Xerox facility, Internet facility and personality development section to the students. The library works from 8 AM to 5 PM on all week days including holidays.

To tap the research talent among the teaching faculty and students even, the PG Courses under the organization "Consumer Awareness and Rural Research Centre" (CAARC), encouraging research in the rural areas, has been organizing a Bi-Annual journal, HUMAN ENDEAVOUR through the department of Economics.   

In order to provide placement opportunities to the students, the PG Courses has started "College Community Networking Center" through the department of Social Work. The Centre had undertaken VELUGU and ICDS projects by providing placements not only to the students of the college but also the unemployed youth of the region.

In one word, the PG Course including DNR College, Bhimavaram is a jewel in the propagation of higher education in the region.
