“Andhra Geervana Vidyapeetham” was founded in 1902 in Kovvur by Sri T.Suryanarayana Rao garu and it was put on firm basis by Sri V.Suryanarayana Rao garu. The management officially came into existence during the year 1912. These two men had high ideals and they had a vision to synthesis modern knowledge with ancient wisdom. They therefore aimed to acquaint the students with the knowledge of our ancestors and then to remove defeats in them. The main aim of the college at its inception was to propagate Vedas and Sastras. The faculty at that time was traditionalistic in outlook.
 
 The College was first affiliated to Madras University in the year 1920 and it created an Oriental Learning Title called Vidya Praveena and Basha Praveena. Subsequently the College was affiliated to Andhra University in the year 1926. The College was renamed as “Sri Vadrevu Jogamma Veda Sanskrit College” during the year 1931. It was admitted into Grant-in–Aid during the year 1980. The oriental Title was changed to BA (OL) Degree course with a view to improve the job prospects of the students.
 
 The college has a vast library of old and invaluable books. It also offers hostel facilities to the students. It also has a Publications division which publishers books about Sanskrit and Telugu languages on spiritual and Cultural topics.
 
 The General Inspections Commission conducted inspections of this college and gave a very positive and encouraging reports The kothari commission headed by Sri B.Ramakrishna Rao praised the college and gave a very favourable report. In 1971 the University Commission headed by Dr.K.Satchidananda Murthy declared this college as one of the best College in Andhra University area.
