The institution of higher learning need to address the issue of social exclusion and evolve strategies for inclusive growth. The UGC has therefore decided to support research on the issue of social exclusion, which has theoretical as well as policy importance. The focus of such research will be social exclusion related to dalits, tribal communities and religious minorities. The idea is to establish a number of teaching –cum-research centers in universities to pursue these themes.
The UGC sanctioned the Centre for Study of social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy to Andhra University on 20th March 2007. Since then, the Centre for Study of social exclusion and Inclusive policy (CSSEIP), Andhra University, Visakhapatnam is embarked on critical research in the area of social exclusion.
One of the main objectives of the CSEEIP is to undertake interdisciplinary research and address the issue of social exclusion of the deprived and marginalized communities. in India, certain communities such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and religions minorities experience systemic exclusion in the matter of sharing the development gains earmarked by the government for their inclusive growth. social exclusion is a complex and multi-dimensional concept having social, cultural, political and economic ramifications, most often interwoven and interfaced.
Need for Establishment of Centre

The primary spaces where exclusion be studied, understood and first transcended are universities, which can and must act as a beacon for society. The UGC has therefore, decided to support research on the issue of s0cial exclusion, which has theoretical as well as policy importance. The focus of such research is on social exclusion related to dalits, tribals and religious minorities. The idea is to establish a number of teaching-cum-research Centers in universities to pursue these themes.
The broad objectives of the Centre are:
1. Conceptualizing discrimination, exclusion and inclusion based on caste/ethnicity and religion.
2. Developing, understanding of the nature and dynamics of discrimination and exclusion.
3. Contextualizing and problematizing discrimination, exclusion and inclusion.
4. Developing an understanding of discrimination at an empirical level.
5. Formulating policies for protecting the rights of these groups and eradicating the problem of exclusion and discrimination
In accordance with the UGC guidelines, the CSSEIP, Andhra University is actively engaged in innovative and incisive research on the aspects of social exclusion and inclusion
