Professor Karumanchi Gayathri Devi, one of the senior most professors in Sanskrit in the country, is currently holding the position of Rector of Andhra University.
Professor Gayathri Devi, an ardent scholar in Sanskrit and English, held several important positions such as Principal, College of Arts and Commerce; Member, Executive Council, AU; Head of the Department of Sanskrit; Chairperson, Board of Studies; Chief Warden, and Convener of the Andhra University Women’s Grievances and Redressal Cell of Andhra University.
Prof.Gayathri Devi obtained her Ph.D in Sanskrit from Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirupathi in 1982. Besides Sanskrit, Prof. Gayathri Devi received Master of Arts in English, Diploma in German and Vidyapraveena.
With 33 years of rich teaching and research experience, Prof.Gayathri Devi produced 17 Ph.Ds and 5 M.Phils. She has published a good number of research articles in journals of national and international repute and conducted several prestigious national and international workshops and seminars.
She has successfully completed Two UGC Major Research Projects and published Four books.
Her area of specialization is Alankarasastra - Sanskrit Language and Literature and also worked on Comparative literary criticism (of Indian and Western).
She translated the Autobiography of a Yogi into Sanskrit. She is presently working on the commentary of the Bhagavadgita written by Sri Sri Paramahamsa Yogananda. She is also an active Member of the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India and actively volunteering in the Sunday School.
One of the most important contribution of Prof. Gayathri Devi is the establishment of “Lab For Skill Development”, the first of its kind in the State Universities, in order to train the students, research scholars and faculty in Soft Skills to make them employable. This is in tune with the Central and State Governments initiation in making Skill India. Around 1,000 students, research scholars and faculty members were given training in Soft Skills from February, 2017 to till date.
