About the University

Andhra University is one of the oldest universities in India, known for its quality education throughout the world. Andhra University was established in 1926 with a visionary of intellect and par excellence Sir C.R. Reddy as its founder Vice-Chancellor. It is located in a sprawling campus of 500 acres with full of lush green flora and fauna. Since its inception, the University made a mark for itself by introducing innovative programmes and adapting to the changes in the academic scenario world over. The focus of the University is to take care of national interest and to develop human resource for global prosperity. Basing on strong foundations laid by the great personalities, the University is enhancing quality standards continuously, prioritizing social inclusiveness and promoting global standards in higher education and research. The former President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan was the second Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University. The University experienced a sea change in academics under the stewardship of Dr. V.S. Krishna as its Vice-Chancellor who later became Chairman of the University Grants Commission. Noble laureate Sir C.V. Raman was closely associated with laying research foundations in Physics. Prof. C.R. Rao, the renowned statistician of the world and the recipient of Padmavibhushan award (the second highest civilian award in India) was also associated with the University. Our Alumni have occupied highest positions not only in India but also across the globe as Heads of Nations and CEOs of many MNCs. The former Vice - President of India Sri M. Venkaiah Naidu is also our proud alumnus. The natural beauty of the campus with the serene blue waters of the Bay of Bengal on one side and the lush green hill ranges surrounded on the other sides beckons academic enthusiasts to the Campus.

The University offers a wide range of UG, PG and Research Programmes through seven constituent campus colleges and also through affiliated colleges outside the Campus. They are:

  4. Andra University College of Pharmaceutical Sciences
  5. Andhra University College of Law
  6. Andhra University College of Engineering for Women
  7. Andhra University College of Education (IASE)

There are about 15,000 students pursuing higher education in the campus and more than 2500 students pursuing research leading to Ph.D. degree in various disciplines. The University has experienced faculty members recognized nationally and internationally for their rich contributions in academics. All the academic departments are equipped with state of the art infrastructural facilities. The highly placed alumni of the University around the globe are supportive and take part in University development programmes towards Collaboration and networking with various industrial and research organizations. The University entered MoUs with 68 organizations of international repute. More than 97 percent of the faculty members are Ph.D degree holders which speak of high teacher quality. The faculty of the University is seriously engaged in research and received projects from national and international funding agencies.
