1. University at a Glance
Andhra University, one of the oldest educational institutions in India, was established in 1926
by the Madras University Act to cater northern districts of the erstwhile Madras Presidency.
The University was the first to be conceived as a residential multi-disciplinary University,
which also served as a residential teaching-cum-affiliating University. The University is a
trendsetter in Higher Education and University-Administration in many respects. In 2016, the
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India has reaccredited Andhra
University with an “A” Grade with a CGPA of 3.60, on a four point scale, until 2023. The
University secured ISO 9001:2000 certification in 2006, ISO 9001:2008 certification in 2016,
and at present it is ISO 9001:2015 certified for its quality standards and maintenance of the
same.
Andhra University, a premier institute of higher learning, is offering varied courses in
emerging areas that bear a direct relationship to economic growth and development of the
society. The University has distinguished itself by initiating several courses which are
innovative and first of their kind in India. The University has 7 constituent colleges – A.U.
College of Arts & Commerce, A.U. College of Science & Technology, A.U. College of
Engineering(Autonomous), A.U. College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr.B.R.Ambedkar
College of Law, A.U. College of Engineering for Women, Institute of Advanced Studies in
Education (IASE) and A.U. School of Distance Education. Besides, the University has 20
departments offering 24 courses at UG level; 69 departments offering 119 courses at PG
level; and, Ph.D programmes. In addition, the University has 13 Research centres and one
Advanced Analytical Lab which is recognised as a National Facility. The University has
achieved another distinction recently, by imparting education in allied fields, through
Certificate programmes to Defense personnel of Tri-Forces through an MoU with DGR, GOI.
