PROFILE
The Department of Education was established in 1972-73 basing on the National Policy on Education which stated that all Indian Universities ought to establish the Departments of Education. The M.A. Education program was started with a view of producing Educational administrators and planners as per the G.O.M.S.No.1353, Edn.16-12-1981. Then this program was redesigned and included pedagogical aspects on the direction of Directorate of School Education Government of Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, NCTE was established as a statutory body in 1993 and came into force from 17th August, 1995 to bring about coordinated and planned development of the teacher Education programmes in India for improving the standards of school education and teacher education. In order to maintain professional standards of teaching profession as stipulated by the professional body NCTE, the Department of Education, Andhra University has started M.Ed. in 2008-09.The two departments of Adult Education and Special Education were merged into the Department of Education on 17- 03-2008.
The Department of Education, Andhra University has been putting their best efforts to enhance the potentiality of the teachers and special teachers, teacher educators, Educational Planners and administrators. It offers the programs of B.Ed. General, M.Ed. General, B.Ed Special, Ph.D in Education.
