PROFILE
M.A Degree in Sociology was introduced in Andhra University in the year 1964 in the Department of Social Work which later became the composite Department of Sociology, Social Work and IRPM. The department was headed by Prof. M.V.Moorthy, an eminent scholar in Sociology and Indology. Prof. Moorthy being a renowned Sanskrit scholar apart from being an acclaimed Sociologist, trained students in Indology. His writings shed light on varied dimensions of Indian Society. He went on to become the Vice-Chancellor of Kashi Vidayapeeth, Varanasi. In 1976 a separate and independent department of Sociology came into being under the headship of Prof. K.Ranga Rao. Former Faculty Y.C.Simhadri, C.R.Prasada Rao, K.Radhakrishna Murty and U.Tataji were trained by eminent scholars like M.N. Srinivas, M.S.A. Rao, D.V. Glass, etc.
Prof.K.Ranga Rao served as Principal, Colleges of Arts & Commerce, Andhra University from 1990-93; went on USEFI Fulbright Fellowship on a teaching assignment to Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA in 1976. Prof. Y.C.Simhadri served as Vice-Chancellor, Nagarjuna University, Guntur (1990-1993).
