DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURE PROFILE

The Department of Architecture was established in 1989 at College of Engineering as a Division and acquired Departmental status in 2001, in keeping with the multifarious scope of Architecture as the art and science of designing spaces and adding value to a meaningful, built environment. It is a subject which is a combination of faculties of engineering, science as well as arts. The programme is a balanced combination of all these streams, yet follows a unique pedagogical methodology that is its hallmark.

Vision:

To train and educate the student to become successful professionals in the field of architecture, to sensitize them and make them responsive to their environment and society within which they have to create a sustainable built environment.

Long term Vision:

♦ To impart architectural practices for sustainable development.
♦ To remain at the fore front of building and construction technology.
♦ To become an active contributor in the field of sustainable built environment and infrastructural development of country.
♦ To allow a natural germination of ideas in the students by encouraging group activities that helps them to communicate and develop skills of response and restraint.

Mission:

The mission of the department is to develop the student's ability to harness his creative skills through latest scientific knowledge, design a humane built environment that responds to the local context.

Broad objectives of the course:

  • Syllabus designed to link the studio projects to the theory subjects, to give a scientific grounding to the ideas of the students.
  • Extensive case studies conducted for design projects to enable the students to get first hand experience of the built environment and sensitize them o the social, cultural, psychological and economical impacts of the built spaces have on us.
  • Enabling of self-assessment to seminars and discussions, which form the basis of all the studio subjects.
  • Study tours are conducted to give the students an exposure to the Indian architectural ethos, its diversity, richness and beauty.
  • Computer aided design is imparted to enable the students to use an effective tool to express their ideas in the most comprehensive manner.
